Just an hour's drive from Benidorm you'll find Elche, the third largest city in the region and indeed one of the most visited. Here you will find the largest plantation of palms in Europe from whose dates the city still procures an income today. As many of the trees are so spread out throughout the centre of the city they give the place quite an exotic feel.
The plantation itself, containing over 300,000 protected palms, has been listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. And highly recommended is a stroll through these thousands of Palms as it is quite a breathtaking experience.
